Sydney Swans, a football club playing in the Australian Football League (AFL), announced a new partnership with the NSW Office of Responsible Gambling and their ‘Reclaim the Game, Be Gamble Aware’ program.
The partnership aims to keep the focus on the excitement of the game itself and should allow supporters and local communities to experience the sport without betting advertising. The initiative will also work to provide an education to staff and players about the risks associated with gambling.
“We are really pleased to be working in partnership with the Office of Responsible Gambling in reducing the reliance on gambling revenue and raising the awareness of risks associated with gambling,” said Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley. According to him, the partnership aligns with the club’s goals to provide a positive impact on the community. “The focus of our partnership is on reinforcing key messages associated with responsible gambling, and as part of this, The Swans will not promote gambling advertising or sponsorship.”
Macarthur FC also joined the gambling awareness initiative in hopes to promote an active, healthy lifestyle to the Macarthur and South West region. “As a club, we want to ensure we are looking after the wellbeing of our members, fans and the wider community. This partnership does just that,” said Gino Marra, chairman of Macarthur FC.
“We now have four major agreements across three of the most popular codes after starting with cricket. That really speaks to clubs recognising their role in looking after their fans and their communities,” added director of the Office of Responsible Gambling, Natalie Wright.
